Discovering Australian Guardianship Law

Australian guardianship law is the key regulatory mechanism for protecting the health of young persons, adults with disabilities and the elderly, and yet it remains understudied and misunderstood as a body of knowledge. Australia has eight different guardianship regimes, which vary widely in their forms of regulation.

The aim of this website is to create an easy to use database of guardianship decisions which map out the boundaries of guardianship laws and their impact on the lives of people effected by guardianship. It is hoped that the site will be of use to guardianship professionals and consumers of guardianship services and provide them with information that can help them understand the process of guardianship throughout Australia. The site indexes the currently available decisions into different topics so that it will be easy for an interested person to find examples of decisions from all the different areas regulated by guardianship law.

It is hoped that the site will encourage further understanding, study and debate about guardianship law in Australia.
